MEMBER COMMUNICATION NOVEMBER 2021
As we approach the end of the year, I want to provide an update on some important matters. The Club is running well, and I am sure members have enjoyed the facilities getting back to normal. Membership numbers have been capped and there is a now a substantial waiting list to join. Our General Manager, Paul and the team have been working diligently to ensure that the Club has been running smoothly during the changing environment.
I am pleased to announce that the Board will be offering members who paid their subscriptions throughout the second period of closure between 26 December 2020 to 26 April 2021, a 25% reduction in subscriptions for next year. In addition, there will be no increase in the subscription rates for all categories of membership for the year 2022/23. Full details of the rates can be found here:
As you will have noticed, remedial work is being carried out to the wall leading down to the pool hall. This area has been damp for a considerable period of time. We therefore carried out a thorough investigation, which has identified where the water has been getting in. External works to the building are being carried out, and internally the plasterwork has been removed. Although unsightly at present, this will allow the brickwork to dry, and as soon as we are satisfied, we will be able to have the area plastered. We will then proceed with the previously planned retiling and replacing of the carpet in the entrance hall and stairs.
Following the recent focus on upgrading the facilities within the Club, the Board’s next priority is to ensure that we preserve our magnificent building for future generations. We have set in motion a regular programme of inspection of the external and internal fabric of the building with annual and quinquennial surveys by specialists now planned. This will allow accurate planning and budgeting.
The AGM and EGM held last month went smoothly and allowed us to deal with the necessary formal business. I indicated in my last communication our wish to hold a members’ meeting as soon as possible to allow questions and discussion of the sort that we normally have at our AGM. After some research, we feel that we do not currently have the necessary capability to host such a meeting satisfactorily on Zoom, to the standard we would like. If the indications early in 2022 are that we can safely hold an in-person meeting, then we will do so. In the meantime, we will ensure that we have the necessary technical back-up to allow a large-scale Zoom meeting, should it be required.
I would like to thank members once again for their continued loyalty and my fellow Board members for their support. In particular I would also like to thank Paul, the staff and instructors for their hard work and dedication to the Club.
It only remains for me to wish everyone a happy and healthy festive season when it comes.
